Why I Adore Vintage Shopping & Finding the Perfect Valentine’s Dress

Recently, I was asked some questions about vintage shopping, and it made me reflect on why I love it so much. Here are my thoughts:

What inspires you to shop vintage and second-hand?

I’m always on the lookout for that one-of-a-kind gem! When department stores and mainstream retailers no longer satisfied my craving for truly unique pieces, I started exploring other options—first consignment shops and thrift stores, then vintage boutiques and local markets. This shift opened up a whole new world for me, where I discovered that vintage clothing not only has character but also stands the test of time. Each piece tells a story and is a rare find in its own right.

Thoughts on Your Vintage Shopping Experience:

One thing I’ve realized is that vintage sellers are some of the most fascinating people. Their passion and enthusiasm for what they curate make the shopping experience not just unique but always exciting and fun.

How Do You Feel When Wearing Vintage?

I feel amazing! Wearing a one-of-a-kind piece gives me confidence, knowing no one else will be dressed the same. (Which means I’ll never have to relive that moment when I walked into a bar wearing the exact same, very bold—think light blue sequins—outfit from one of Target’s designer collaborations!) That’s the beauty of vintage—you never have to worry about someone showing up in the same look as you!

Thoughts on Styling Vintage:

There’s no wrong way to wear vintage—period. The possibilities are endless, and you can let your creativity run wild. My personal style is eclectic and always evolving, so how I wear a piece today might be completely different from how I style it a year from now. That’s what makes vintage fashion so exciting! Even incorporating just one vintage accessory, like a purse or scarf, can add a unique, personal touch. For me, the joy of vintage comes from styling pieces in fresh, unexpected ways that make me feel truly myself.

Where Do You Shop Vintage in Chicago?

Short answer: Everywhere! Chicago is full of amazing vintage stores and markets. My go-to neighborhoods are Wicker Park, Pilsen, and Andersonville, but I also love exploring the Randolph Street Market in the West Loop during the summer months.

I met Lydia, the owner of Confetti Co Vintage, at the Randolph Street Market a few years ago. Her warmth, kindness, and incredible energy make shopping with her such a fun experience. She has an amazing eye for unique finds, so her booth is always filled with treasures! 😊

Recently, she shared a beautiful reflection on vintage clothing, and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it feels like the perfect way to wrap things up:

A Love Letter from the Past
“Every piece of vintage clothing I’ve ever sold was cherished and preserved for a reason—whether it was worn to a senior prom, a magical first date, or a wild night of dancing at an unforgettable club. These pieces carry memories with them wherever they go, from me to you. Vintage clothing has a special kind of sparkle, and if you ask me, it’s the love infused into them by their previous owners—like a love letter from the past!”

Thanks for reading, and I’d love to hear your thoughts on vintage shopping!

Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤️
